Something To Think About Today Video Blog

It’s time to charge what you are really worth

“Are you charging what you are worth? Are you charging your clients enough?

You see, for a lot of people it’s really hard to charge the right amount of money, they feel that it would be great to charge a bit more but, you know….. “it’s only me”, “it’s only my service”, “it’s only what I do”, “it can’t be worth, well, it can’t be worth more” – but it always is.

If you put your price up, guess what happens? People pay you more. And, if you put your price to the right level then they’ll pay you what you’re worth and what you’re worth is always, in my opinion, always more than [that dog!] more than you are charging now!

Hopefully that will give you something to think about today…

Have a great day!”

Call the people who matter to you

“Sue Dormer, you said I don’t focus in on my dog enough when I’m making videos, so here’s coco for you. Lovely dog!

Random start to a video I guess but interesting conversation this morning at a networking event when Sue mentioned I didn’t show the dog enough in my videos, so hopefully that’s covered that problem for you…..

But, my thinking today in picking up the phone to make this video was how many times I talk to people who tell me that they look after their clients, tell me they do the very best things for their clients they can do. They are brilliant at service but they don’t keep in touch with people!

They don’t pick up the phone to touch with people, they don’t get, you know they don’t do the things that are so simple and so easy for us to do.

We should be contacting the people who matter to us exactly the same way we look after our family and speak with them. If we not talking to clients on the phone then they’re probably going to disappear….

That’s a hell of a shame isn’t it? So, perhaps that’ll give you something to think about today.

Pick up the phone and perhaps call someone you haven’t spoken to for a while. I hope that helps.

Have a great day!”

Working across the generations

“I’ve heard a lot of talk recently about generation X, generation Y, millennials, the differences in people, the differences in generations. And, I’ve worked a lot recently with a lot younger people in last couple of months and yes, there is a difference in their expectation and there is a difference in their ideas of career and, and how they expect to be treated, or want to be treated and what have you….

But, you know there’s a converse to all of this, which is, how do we teach these people to work with us, because most of the people that they need to work with, and sell to a going to be older and they need to learn how to do that properly. Yes, we need to understand what the workforce is going to look like in 10-15 years and what those people will be looking for out of careers, but we also need to help them and there’s a, there’s a big gap.

Anyway hope that’ll give you something to think about.

Have a great day!”

When things go wrong

“When things go wrong in hotels there’s so many different ways of dealing with it and I’ve had a situation today where, very randomly, I put my hand in the in the bag to take a hair dryer out and in there was a pair of socks: dirty pair of socks which is quite disgusting.

Anyway I mentioned it to reception, told her I wasn’t particularly happy about it and her reaction was really poor, she sort of said “well, I’m not sure what to do about that” and I said  well, do something because I’m not happy about paying the full rate for the room.

Anyway, she went away and she came back, they knocked some money off the room and gave me breakfast which is lovely. Now her reaction was pretty average but the reaction of the manager in the restaurant and the cleaning lady who came to see me was absolutely outrageously good. you know, a massive apology, in fact to point, to a point where she felt a little bit embarrassed.

Well done to them you know, and if you ever get to have breakfast at Gaucho fantastic!

So hopefully that will give you something to think about, it’s not how you put things right, it’s how you deal with the problem at the at the source.

Have a great day.”

What are you prepared to do?

“So, here’s a question for you it’s a pretty simple one: What is it you want to achieve and what are you actually prepared to do about it?

Because, I spend so much time listening to people tell me what they want and how they want to get here and there and everywhere. But when it comes to actually putting the effort in, when it comes to really putting the effort in, they sometimes fail. They fail quite fast actually.

They fail when it takes a little bit more work or they fail when they mess up the first time or they fail when it doesn’t quite behave the way or things don’t quite behave they want to.

What are you prepared to do to get to what you want?  And, if you can’t work longer how on earth are you going to get there without working smarter.

Hopefully I’ve given you something to think about today.

Have a great day.”
